A $50 Gift can buy 200 Pounds of Rambutans Fruit for Orangutans

$50.00

Donate in honor of someone and send them an e-card. Your gift for them will go towards feeding the orphans at the Orangutan Care Center and Quarantine.

Every day at the OCCQ the orphaned orangutans can eat over 2 tonnes of fruit like bananas, rambutan fruit, coconuts, and local infamous durian fruit. Although Bananas don’t grow wild in Borneo, they are an important staple fruit for the orangutans at the OCCQ. We can rely on Bananas being available all year round and the orangutans seem to never tire of them! The orangutans love Rambutan fruit (closely related to lychee). We purchase this fruit from local farmers and the people of the village of Pasir Panjang but this fruit also grows wild in Tanjung Puting National Park. Coconuts are a nutritious and delicious favorite of the orangutans. They also provide stimulation for the orangutans and teach them important skills in how to break into difficult fruits that they will find in the wild. Durians are the orangutan’s absolute favorite fruit! This delicacy is native to Borneo and several varieties of Durian grow within the forests of Tanjung Puting and other OFI protected lands.
