In Appreciation of Patti Silver

In Appreciation of Patti Silver
(1942-2024)

We are deeply saddened at the death of Patti Silver who was a long time supporter of orangutans and other wildlife. Patti Silver and her loving husband Stanley Silver came to Camp Leakey over a decade ago. Patti had long been a fan of wild animals and supported various causes to preserve wildlife populations from extinction. She was particularly concerned about the preservation of nature for future generations. Patti was a significant donor to the Noah’s Ark project at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Patti’s support and generosity knew no bounds through the Silver Foundation and the Leo Guthman Foundation. She and Stanley were also a retail force and great success at Fred Segal Feet which they established in Beverly Hills and which was very popular.

Patti served on the OFI Board of Directors for many years and her unwavering support and love for all animals was the foundation of our shared journey. Her ideas were creative in saving orangutans and understanding the cultural uniqueness of Indonesian Borneo. Her passion for animals reflected the same feelings that Dr. Biruté expressed. They both had undying devotion to animals and conservation.

A wild born ex-captive orangutan named Silver to honor Patti and Stanley is on the list to be returned to the wild. Orangutan Silver, too, reminds us of the importance of protecting wildlife populations and their habitats from extinction. Patti and Stanley were committed to animal welfare, nature education, and protection of wildlife through many means. We admire them greatly and have the deepest respect for their love of all animals including orangutans. Their dedication for animals was inestimeable and will never be forgotten.
